Program Description
Wayne Memorial High School
At Wayne Memorial High School Bright Futures, we offer a wide variety of activities to high school students. Our activities are designed to meet students where they are and move them forward to a brighter future!
After School Program
Each day after school, students come to the Bright Futures room and have the opportunity to work on their homework. If they do not have homework, they can play board games or work on art projects. Students love the safe space that our program provides, where they can be themselves, explore new ideas and meet new friends.
In addition to the Bright Futures space, there are several clubs that run each day. Some popular academic-based programs are Young People’s Project, where students receive math mentoring; the International Poetry Guild, where students post poems online and receive feedback from University of Michigan students who act as their online mentors; and Telluride, a writing workshop where students collaborate with the University of Michigan’s Telluride house to work on strengthening their writing skills.
Students are also encouraged to participate in enrichment activities, including CrossTown Theater Troupe, Website Design, Film Club, Art Club, Hip Hop Dance (taught by Detroit Dance Studio), and Community Records (a recording studio that works with the students on producing their own music). The DAVID Leadership Academy for young men and Ladies of Leadership for young women are also available.
Before School Program
Before school, we offer homework help and mentoring from 6:45 until school starts at 7:20. This program is available to students on a drop-in basis, and students often pick up their breakfast in the cafeteria and bring it to our morning program. Students have the chance to learn from a skilled and friendly tutor.
