Program Description
Willow Run Elementary Bright Futures program
3:20 p.m. -6:20 p.m. Monday-Thursday
The Willow Run Elementary Bright Futures program gives students in grades 3-5 an opportunity to participate in homework help, math and writing activities, as well as a variety of enrichment activities. Students arrive at Willow Run Middle School from the 4 elementary schools in the Willow Run Community School District via school bus. They enjoy a healthy snack and have a chance to socialize while waiting for all busses to arrive.
Once all students have arrived, homework and academic time begins. Students work in grade level rooms on homeowrk assignments with the help of staff and volunteers. Students also work on a variety of math and writing activities including educational games, math art, poetry, journal writing, creative writing, portfolios, and SuccsssMaker. Once per week fifth grade students participate with “Young People’s Project”, where trained high school students design and present fun and engaging math lessons. During this time, students also have opportunities to strengthen community and work on team building.
After academic time the students get to take part in some fabulous clubs. There are three clubs offered each day. The clubs are created by the students. Students create a list of clubs they would like to see offered at Bright Futures. The top choices become club offerings for an 8-10 week session. Examples of past clubs include; sports, movie making, sweat treats, science, Community Records, Abrakadoodle, jewelry making, and many more!
Every Thursday the students work on leadership skills in gender groups. The boys work with Mr. Alejandro Baldwin and DAVID Academy while the girls work with the Girl Scouts Uniquely Me program. Students are picked up at the end of the day by a parent/guardian or other authorized adult.
The Willow Run Bright Futures program strives to make every day enjoyable for the students. They have opportunities to grow and learn by participating in a balance of academics and enrichment. Please contact us to learn more!
