Program Description
Adams Lower Elementary
When your second, third or fourth grader walks into the Lower Elementary Bright Futures program they are walking into a program full of fun! We believe in increasing the academic performance of students through enriching activities and engaging recreational programs. Starting this 2010/2011 school year, we are excited to expand our program to service two new schools, Elliott and Hamilton Elementary!
Our afternoons run for three hours Monday through Thursday from 3:20-6:20pm. The students begin their afternoon with a snack, after snack they move into their academic time. During this time they work on their homework from their classroom. If they do not have homework or they choose not to do their homework they are offered a variety of enriching activities to work on. These activities could range from math activities, computer time, hands-on science fun or creative writing. We work with the school day teachers to help the students succeed so if a child is struggling in an area during the school day, we try to work with that student one on one. Our staff have educational backgrounds to work with students so there is an awarding experience daily.
After the homework time is completed the students move into their recreational time. The students are offered three activities a day to choose from. They choose one activity per day and commit to that activity for 10 weeks. Some of the choices they are offered are: karate, Abrakadoodle art, jewelry making, cooking, baseball, pottery, tech madness (computers and Wii), drama, dance and science. Those are just naming a few! After the 10 week course in completed we have a parent night. This night is dedicated to the parents coming into the program to see what their child/children have succeeded in throughout the weeks. This night is special for the students to really share with their parents!
Throughout the school year we are fortunate to take the students on a few field trips. This past year we had the wonderful experience of traveling to the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum for the Night at the Museum. They provided the students with dinner, hands on science fun and time in the museum - we were the only program there! The whole museum for just the students! We also went swimming and to the library. If you join us for our 6 week summer program then you are swimming and doing field trips weekly - fun!
It is hard to believe that we fit all the fun in three hours, but we manage to do it daily! We believe in giving the students a safe environment to come to everyday. We are here to give them experiences that they may not ever have. The smiles on their faces when they succeed are ….. PRICELESS!
