Kelly graduated from Colby College (Waterville, ME) in 2011, where she was a Biology major with minors in both Art and Environmental Studies. She's a California and Michigan certified Science teacher who spent two years teaching 7th grade Science in Oakland, California before moving to Michigan and beginning her work with EMU Bright Futures in the summer of 2013. She completed her Master’s with Eastern Michigan University in Educational Leadership: K-12 Administration summer of 2017. She LOVES working with youth both in classroom settings, in the outdoors, and especially AFTER SCHOOL! This will be her 4th year as Site Coordinator at Holmes!  In her free time you can usually find her playing with her cats (Merlin and River), running and hiking, or cooking with my husband, Peter.

Program Description

The Holmes Elementary School Bright Futures program is a safe, creative, and engaging after school program that serves second, third, fourth, and fifth grade students. Bright Futures offers homework help, recreational club time, and academic enrichment activities, tailored to meet the specific needs of its participants and community.

In Bright Futures we know how important academic achievement is and we teach our students to prioritize homework, for which we provide support daily. But we also encourage our kids to explore their interests by joining clubs.

At Holmes we offer a wide variety of activities and clubs designed to encourage students to try new things and gain experience in a safe and fun environment. We are excited to offer clubs including arts & crafts, sports and games, Lego engineering, mad science, cooking, acting and theater, and film making – just to name a few! All of the clubs combine fun with academic enrichment. We encourage respect and responsibility within our community while growing together through emotional, academic, and social development. Bright Futures also understands the significance of involving families and school staff in our program, which is why we host family events every few months to celebrate and enjoy the community that we have built together.

Bright Futures at Holmes runs Monday through Thursday from 2:20 p.m. to 5:05 p.m. during the school year, with additional sessions during our balanced calendar breaks. Our 4-week summer program runs Monday through Thursday during July.
