This will be Max’s first year with Bright Futures, and Bright Future’s first year at Hamilton Elementary in Westland, Michigan. Max greatly enjoys the intersection of education and community development based practices. Prior to working with Bright Futures Max has taught pre-school and spent six years teaching high school digital media literacy in Chicago, IL. Max is excited to use his knowledge gained from University of Michigan’s Educational Leadership and Policy Master’s, Digital Media Literacy certification, and Colombia College’s Teaching Artist Development programs to provide engaging and enriching experiences for Bright Future’s participants at Hamilton Elementary.
Bright Future’s first year at Hamilton Elementary in Westland, MI will serve 2nd through 4th grade students after school through the duration of the 2018-2019 academic year. During the school year, students have the opportunity to participate in various enrichment clubs, such as dance, arts, theater/improv, STEM, and sports. There will also be many community partners brought in to add professional coaching in specific areas of student interest. In addition to club activities students will have daily academic time to receive small-group assistance with homework or access enriching educational materials. All of our activities are designed to support students’ social-emotional learning, including developing empathy and teamwork skills. We will plan several family events this year, both at school and in the community, to allow for students to share their learning and growth.
